Trees? Sense them.

Yes, Blog Action Day 2009 is over but that shouldn't stop us from talking about climate change.

Nancy, My name is Hendri.I am doing my research on Garbage enzyme to be distribute to students. Do you have an idea what most advantageous type of yeast and how much of it should I add in ratio to speed up the production of enzyme from the waste...? Please give me assistance or someone of expert you know. My hotmail is mynottingham@hotmail.com. I greatly appreciate for your help. Thank you.

Yeast is not required to make garbage enzyme. Stick to the ratio of 1kg of brown sugar and 3kg of vegetables and fruit scraps to 10 litres of water. Enzyme made from fruit scraps smells better.

Ya, I agree with you. Enzyme need not require to be added to garbage enzyme. The thing is if it is not added, it will take 3 months time for it to produce enzyme. And it is pretty slow... yeast serve to make the process faster. The students will wear out from their enthusiasm if they need to wait 3 months... hehe
If there is any info or person you know... please gladly help me... Thank you.

You will find article "Accelerators, Additives & Extras" at Composter Connection useful:

http://www.composterconnection.com/site/additives-extras.html

Composting can also teach the students that all good things take time to develop. Ask them to smell the waste material before they start composting and after; when compost is ready for use.
